Fine Structure Discussion of Parity-nonconserving Neutron Scattering at Epithermal Energies

The large magnitude and the sign correlation effect in the parity non-conserving resonant scattering of epithermal neutrons from Th is discussed in terms of a non-collective 2p− 1h local doorway model. General conclusions are drawn as to the probability of finding large parity violation effects in other regions of the periodic table. PACS numbers: 25.40.Ny, 11.30.Er, 24.10.Ht, 24.80.Dc CTP# 229...

Neutron scattering measurements at intermediate energies

The study of elastic neutron scattering at intermediate energies is essential for the understanding of the isovector term in the nucleon-nucleus interaction, as well as for the development of macroscopic and microscopic optical potentials at these energies. The techniques used for neutron scattering measurements is presented in this paper, as well as the di culties encountered. The few faciliti...

Parity nonconserving observables in thermal neutron capture on a proton

Abstract We calculate parity nonconserving observables in the processes where a neutron is captured on a proton at the threshold energy radiating a photon. Various potential models such as Paris, Bonn and Argonne v18 are used for the strong interactions, and the meson-exchange description is employed for the weak interactions between hadrons. The photon polarization Pγ in the unpolarized neutro...

Calculation of parity-nonconserving optical rotation in iodine at 1315 nm

We examine the feasibility of a parity nonconserving (PNC) optical rotation experiment for the P3/2 → P1/2 transition of atomic iodine at 1315 nm. The calculated E1PNC to M1 amplitude ratio is R = 0.80(16) × 10−8. We show that very large PNC rotations (greater than 10 μrad) are obtained for iodine-atom column densities of ∼1022 cm−2, which can be produced by increasing the effective interaction...
